If money were no object and I could do anything for the rest of my life, it would be humanitarian photography. What a privilege to get to visit these beautiful people and see a bit of how they live, especially where it’s hard or even tragic. My heart goes out to them all over again, especially the kids. I pray they’re all well, they feel loved and their needs are met, and I hope they would be proud of how I’ve captured them.
A little photography afterthought: I’ve always felt the idea of “making” photographs was pretentious (unless you’re printing in a darkroom). People can say what they want, of course, but I’m definitely taking photos – snatching little moments out of the air. These photos really highlighted this for me; I took something from each of these people whether I asked or didn’t, whether they were happy or not that I did. I’m grateful to all, but I want to get better about asking. And thanking.
